Apple announced that iOS 27 enables sharing a single eSIM number between two separate i Phones. Initial availability targets T-Mobile users in the United States and Telekom customers in Germany. The telecom operator charges an additional five dollars per month for this service. Critics have raised concerns about recurring small fees. Some suggest a dedicated carrier could eliminate these costs entirely.
Users cannot activate two lines with the same number simultaneously. Instead, they choose which phone remains active at any given moment. Switching between devices happens instantly whenever needed. Key elements transfer automatically to the current phone. These include calls, voicemails, messages, and Find My functionality. i Cloud data and third-party app information also move seamlessly. This ensures communication continuity regardless of the device used.
Configuration begins in the current phone's settings or during a new i Phone activation. On the new device, navigate to the Cellular section in Settings. Select Set up Cellularor Add eSIM. Then, choose i Phoneand follow the prompts to continue and transfer. Once both devices receive on-screen instructions, open the desired phone. A notification reading Switched to this i Phoneappears at the top. This confirms the number switch successfully.
Both phones must run iOS 27 to use Handoff. They must also be linked to the same Apple account. The new operating system version is scheduled for release on September 14. T-Mobile and Telekom subscribers will gain access to this utility. It simply allows using one number on two machines. The additional cost is five dollars per month for this convenience.
